SIMES, SINCE 1950

SIMES´s ancient factory

FOUNDING OF SIMES

  • In 1946 Mateo Careaga began the process of founding SIMES (Writing Material and Printing Supplies), a company´s whose objective was firstly to manufacture office numbering stamps, followed by staples and staples.

The shortages in those years made the acquisition of machinery to start the factory almost impossible. However, an artisan work order received by Mateo Careaga opened the door to a great friendship with the person behind the order, who later became the person to help him acquire the machinery he was after.

After some difficult years and several financial alliances, the notarial founding of the company "SIMES - Careaga, Treviño y Cía" became a reality on 26 April, 1951.

R & D IN THE 50s

  • In said era the lack of means and supplies meant we had to rely on strong ingenuity. In many companies and workshops of a certain level, the entire staff of around a dozen people investigated ways and procedures to make production more fluid as they carried out their work.

Without a specific method, employees suggested new ways for manufacturing tools or manual apparatus, in order to improve functionality and price compared with the items positioned by the competition.

Any trip or visit to a provider or customer became an ideal excuse to analyze the situation: provisions, materials, models, prices, services, sales indexes, etc. Definitively what is known today as Marketing.

PUBLICITY = COMMUNICATION

  • To better reach our customers and promote our tools we relied on posters and brochures. For this we needed a photographer, which after photographing the items would airbrush them, add a caption and send them to the printers.

The distribution of the print outs was done by the wholesalers themselves.

AGREEMENT WITH SENCO

  • In the beginning SENCO Products Inc. was dedicated to the manufacture of pneumatic staplers intended for the automobile industry, upholstery, furniture and mattresses. In its international expansion it signed a License Contract for the manufacture of industrial staples through the Dutchman Jacques J. Poppers.

For SIMES, this agreement negotiated by the managing director back then Juan Carlos Iturri meant contact with new technologies and an opening to the exterior, thus laying the foundation for the later development of our company.

1968

NEW FACTORY AND HEADQUARTERS

  • As a result of the increase in activity that arose from the agreement with SENCO, the need arose to extend the small workshop located in Éibar and, due to the lack of industrial grounds and the advantages provided by Navarra for industrial implementation, a move the Elcano in 1966 was decided. The factory of 4.000 m² was inaugurated in January 1968.

1976

CNC (PNEUMATIC NAILING COMPANY)

  • The manufacture of strips of nails gave rise to the formation of the CNC Company, in which another company participated, dedicated to the activity of wiredrawing, raw material required for the manufacture of nails with the quality needed for their operation with pneumatic apparatus. Subsequently said participation was acquired.

As a result of a manufacturing integration in 1995, the company Van Aerdin-Group also entered to become part of CNC.

1981

AIT (HOT MELT INDUSTRIAL ADHESIVES)

  • We decided to enter the field of adhesives as said products began to compete strongly with our staples in the sector of cardboard packaging.

Originally it was dedicated to the manufacture of hot-melt bars for application with electrical apparatus, for which we took advantage of the commercial know-how we had gained from our experience with ROCASIM.
